Goals for 07
Let's see, what else? Nada.... 13 weeks to Arizona and I couldn't be more excited about racing this one. Volume is coming up and I should peak oh so perfectly for IMAZ. I've got a couple throw away races in there to get the legs warmed up for Ironman. Should be a nice gauge to see where my fitness is 2 weeks out.
I've got a couple goals I want to throw down for the 07 season. I usually don't do this but I am today......
Olympic Distance w/ Split Times: 2hrs 00mins or below
- 1.5k swim - 21 minutes
- 40k bike - 58 minutes
- 10k run - 39 minutes
- 1.2 mile swim - 28 minutes
- 56 mile bike - 2:20
- 13.1 mile run - 1:30
Ironman Distance w/ Split Times: 9hrs 35mins or below
- 2.4 mile swim - 59 minutes
- 112 mile bike - 5:05
- 26.2 mile run - 3:20
Throughout the season, I can go back and use this as a benchmark for what I hope to do. Without goals....what's the point....
At the end of the 07 season, I will re-evaluate my performance and my overall goals for the future. I have all aspirations on turning pro in 08. Although if I need more time to develop, then so be it, and I'll spend another year paying my dues and widening my talent. I'm in no hurry to make things happen that aren't meant to be, as I feel when the time is right...the opportunity will present itself.
Triathlons a waiting game. It's not an overnight success for anyone. Athletes never reach there full potential without first laying a base foundation to grow on. If an athlete is patient and doesn't force the body's ability to progress naturally...talent and hard work will always show a return on investment. I, of all people know there's a pecking order in this sport!
There's no easy way to the top, no easy way to become fast, no easy way to excel...just hard work and nothing more. You want to beat someone who faster than you, you have to be willing to out-train them. Point being is...you can't fake an Ironman, you can't fake hard work ...nor can you fake your body's limitations. If your thinking something else, you're just plain ignorant!
Should be an exciting season to watch.....
Regards,Mg
