Before A Break...I'll Spend One More Day In The Sun...
As the title suggest, I'm due for a break......
You might be wondering why I'm bringing this up now? Over the past few weeks, I've really started to understand the meaning of training, recovery, rest and mental sanity.
In all honesty...the focus has really been on how I will proceed going into Florida. Starting a base/build too early will lead to an early burnout...going in to late will lead other problems. Nailing my prep period is key! Dave and I have talked about this quit extensively over the past month.
I've toyed with several scenarios and IM Canada or IM Wisconsin have been two of them. The way the past couple weeks have gone, "regarding fitness and overall development"...I felt I would be poised...to have good races at either of these Ironman's. That's if I kept a build running through Buffalo Springs and treated Lubbock like a pit stop.
Sometimes you actually have to check yourself when training is going well. Without time down or small breaks...we close the door to future development and mental focus! I took a look back through my log and noticed my training has been solid since Dec 11th. There have been a couple glitches in there throughout the period...Achilles injury or a couple weeks off after IMAZ...but all in all...everything has materialized nicely. I've made solid progress through this period and now it's time to recharge!
After Buffalo Springs...I will pull back and take some time down for rest. After a solid break...I will begin an extremely focused period heading into Florida. Races I do later in the season will all be low priority, and all with an emphasis on sharpening for November 3rd.
So that brings me to current day....Now. A week left till Buffalo Springs and pushing a pretty hard taper right now! When Sunday rolls around, I should be nice and dialed in, both mentally and physically...to push a strong day. Do I have any idea how the day will roll or what to expect? Absolutely not! I do know where my fitness is...and it's strong enough to give the course a run for it's money and that's exactly what I plan to do....
See you in Lubbock!
