Red Bull Calls & I'm Back In Business
You'll probably remember back about a month ago I took a few days down after the "Memphis in May Triathlon". During those 3 days of rest and relaxation...I decided to create a Red Bull sculpture to be submitted for Red Bull's "Art of the Can" Exhibit in Philadelphia, PA. Once all the submissions were in the hands of the museum...a panel of judges critiq
ued and reviewed each piece....and afterwards, selected a handful to be shown in late October.
I knew everyone had a chance at being selected, but honestly, I had no expectations once I dropped the sculpture in the mail. Going outside the lines and doing something completely new and exciting was enjoyment enough. Well, this Friday I received the following e-mail from Red Bull....

Congratulations!!! Your artwork has been selected to show at the Red Bull Art of Can Exhibition at The F.U.E.L. Collection from October 18th - November 2nd
We want to thank you for submitting your creation to the Red Bull Art of Can Contest and appreciate all the time, energy, and creativity you put into your piece!
Needless to say I was floored! I couldn't believe the piece was selected. Not only will it be featured at the museum during those dates...it will also be viewed again by another panel of judges as well as media and individuals in the art community. Kind of Cool.....
Outside of the short paragraphs above....I was asked to fill out a more formal "Artist Profile" for the exhibit and the website. I've got to say...this was one of the more unique things I've had to do in my life. I felt funny answering the question regarding my formal Art Schooling.... Hmm, I guess I could have mentioned something about my last Ironman and how I drew inspiration from what I wished "I could have done" during the run....actually "RUN"...HA!, That was Funny! No worries...Ironman Florida will be here soon enough and there's always opportunity for redemption.
Speaking of Florida...I'm supposed to fly up to Philadelphia on October 18th for opening night. Not sure if that will happen as I'll be two weeks out from "The Race" and a little too focused on one task! You never know though?
Ok...enough on my running guy. His name is actually "Newton's Bull". You'll have to go back in my blog to read about the name.
.......................................................
OK, back to triathlon. Training started back today. I took it out the door today for a run....and what wonderful run it was. A 2 week break from running was the best thing for my body and mind. Tomorrow I will be back in the saddle and back in the pool. While I brought the swimming volume up last week...I will still continue to push the volume until I feel my swimming has reached a comfortable level. Hopefully, 20,000 - 25,000 yards a week is a comfortable range and will not compromise any of the other workouts!
I decided to lace the shoes up a few days earlier as I think 2 weeks off is plenty of time to let a nagging ailment dissipate, the Achilles issue that is! 17 weeks isn't very much time to build strong run durablility. Consistency and not volume will be the key here. Nailing those long workouts close to race day will be tops on the list!
I'm super excited to role the dice again. I'm 6 weeks out from CATS Half Ironman, 13 weeks out from Longhorn Half Ironman, 17 weeks out from Ironman Florida and 18 weeks out from Ironman 70.3 World Champs. Giddy-UP
Outside of any other racing...I think I'm pulling the plug on anything outside of these 4 races. Focus on Long Course racing needs to remain my sole priority. Racing short is fun and can provide small amounts of race day simulation...but in the long haul, I feel it can possibly do more harm than good. Over the next 17 weeks....if a race pops up and it fits the schedule and doesn't compromise the overall plan...I'll role the dice, but for now...this is it.
The daily blog will be back up and running on Wednesday or Thursday this week. The first few days will be nothing more than a wind-up back into a base training mode. While I'll keep track of each day...I have a feeling things will get more interesting as the week progresses.
See you later on in the week....
